Ok. Here goes my very first submission after lurking on this site for far too many months before I could pluck up the courage to try a design. And, I'm apologizing in advance for my poor drawing skills!
My dress was inspired by the Rodarte for Target tulle & satin dress that was so wildly popular they had to do it twice! Last year I did a version of it for my good friend, Trudi, to wear to a wedding. I loved it so much that I went out and bought some fabric so I could sew one for myself as well.
My version is in two pieces, as with the original, and is meant to be just above the knee in length. The outer layer is a loose-fitting, drop-waisted dress made of tulle, with lace insets at the shoulders and at the waist, which also has some mild shirring. It ties at the neck and opens with pearly buttons on that side. The bottom of the dress is left unfinished.
The slip underneath is also drop-waisted and can be made of light charmeuse, satin or silk. It has a lace trim at the bottom which is easily visible through the tulle overlay.
Depending on what kind of lace or fabric for the slip you use, the design can be made chic, punky or classic.
Its a romantic, modern dress (I think!) that can be worn to a wedding or a party.
