This is one of those variation patterns, where the core of the pattern is the same but there is an option to change out the collar or bring up the sleeve a few inches and achieve a very different look. I went with a bolero that fastens above the bust (so no need to account for the complexities of our various chest sizes) and can be made with long cozy sleeves and a hood or 3/4 sleeves and an asymmetrical overlapping collar. I liked the idea of a complimentary piece, something that you could throw on over a number of outfits (tank top, long sleeves, a dress, etc.) for the changing of the seasons.

Our Own Pretty Ways by First Aid Kit is a new favorite. Its all about the ways people do and dont change.

Let's take this for what it is
You tell me you have changed
Well we all change in our own ways
In our own pretty ways
It all comes down to this
I'm an ocean, you're the rain

I was inspired by that idea and by the sister duo, Johanna and Klara. Their style seems to vary from tomboy-ish to folksy girly to mod dresses.

Wow I think this style is great because you could make a basic version or an extraordinary version with a billion possibilities to mix and match!

Yes! :) That was definitely the driving idea behind this design, so I am glad the inspiration comes through. I limited myself to 2 options since I wasn't even sure if that was ok with the contest guidelines (I hoped it would be since it wasn't a full outfit) but if the core pattern was made it would be so cool to see what kind of variations the talented DIYers who visit this site could come up with!

Just realized I should clarify, the variation would be in the sewing stage, altering the core pattern to fit your personal style, like in those old Butterwick pattern sets. Once constructed, the garment would be a solid piece, not designed to be interchangeable later on.

I just want to say, this is one of the most unique designs I have seen someone come up with. I love the versatility of the piece.

I am just dying to have a pattern for this. I would make one in every color of the rainbow. Also, a GREAT gift piece for friends or family without having to do an excessive amount of measurements--excluding the bust portion for this reason is so clever.

Thank you so much! That is so sweet of you to say. I didn't even think of the great gift aspect in the versatility, you're right, it would be easy to make for somebody without knowing a lot of their measurements. Thanks for the support!
